TEAMWORK is making the dream work in Barrhead after two community organisations joined forces to prepare for the new football season.
Members of the 1st Barrhead Boys’ Brigade teamed up with Arthurlie FC to tackle weeds on paths and terracing at their Dunterlie Park home, paving the way for a return of supporters.
Arthurlie decided against taking part in the 2020/21 West of Scotland Football League campaign after being told they would be unable to welcome fans to their home ground as a result of the Covid pandemic.
However, with a little help from the BB company, the club is raring to go ahead of the 2021/22 season kicking off next month.
After the tidy-up at Dunterlie, the boys were able to take to the pitch for a challenge match as a reward for their efforts.
Jim Glen, captain of 1st Barrhead BB, said: “Teaming up with Arthurlie FC was an ideal opportunity for our members to engage in some community work.
“It gets the boys outdoors and allows them to work towards their Queen’s Badge, obtaining valuable volunteering hours towards the award.”
David Blakey, Arthurlie president, described the support offered by the BB as “really encouraging.
He added: “As a former BB member myself, at 8th Paisley, I know the benefits being part of this organisation brings, what it means to young men and how it offers them a common purpose and friendships which often last a lifetime.”
