East Renfrewshire Council has issued reassurance to parents after pupils in three classes at a Barrhead primary school were told to self-isolate.

Affected pupils at Cross Arthurlie Primary have been told to stay at home as a precaution.

Two of the three classes are due back in school at the beginning of next week at the end of their self-isolation period.

Elsewhere in the local authority, a class at Mearns Primary and a class at Eaglesham Primary are also self-isolating.

A spokesman for East Renfrewshire Council told the Barrhead News: “Following notification of positive tests linked to Cross Arthurlie, Eaglesham and Mearns primaries, we made colleagues at Public Health aware and are following all necessary procedures, including classes at each school now self-isolating at home as a precaution.

“Parents have been informed of the measures we are taking and home learning provision is being put in place to support these pupils.”

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde confirmed that its Test and Protect team is "carrying out COVID-19 contact tracing linked to Cross Arthurlie Primary School and other schools in the area".

"To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, no further details will be released but we can confirm close contacts are being advised to self-isolate and being given advice and support," a spokesman for the health board added.

"Apart from those who are identified as close contacts, all other staff and pupils can continue to attend as normal."
