COUNTING is underway in the Eastwood constituency, with voters set to find out who has won the seat later today.

A team of East Renfrewshire Council staff are performing the count at Eastwood High School, in Newton Mearns, following yesterday's Scottish Parliament election.

There was a three-horse race for the seat in 2016, with former Scottish Conservatives leader Jackson Carlaw winning ahead of the SNP, with Labour in third.

Mr Carlaw, who had a majority of 1,611, is standing again but the SNP and Labour have both targeted the constituency.

Barrhead News:

East Renfrewshire councillor Colm Merrick is the SNP candidate, while Labour, which held Eastwood from 1999 until 2016, are represented by Katie Pragnell.

Standing for the Scottish Liberal Democrats is Tahir Jameel, with Janice Mackay representing the UK Independence Party (UKIP) and David Macdonald standing as an Independent.

A result had initially been expected around 4pm, although it is now likely to be sometime later.

Votes for the West Scotland region are also being counted but that result will not be announced until tomorrow.
