EAST Renfrewshire Council is taking action to crack down on dog fouling after receiving a growing number of complaints about the problem.

Several residents have highlighted streets where pet poo has been left lying.

In response, the council is stepping up patrols and has reminded dog owners that, if caught, they will be fined.

A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, we have received an increase in dog fouling reports.

“It is completely unacceptable to not clean up after your dog.

“If you don’t pass a bin on your walk, you should take it home and dispose of it in your own bin.

“If you are caught, you will be fined up to £80.

“Our community safety team continue to carry out patrols across East Renfrewshire and they will also be displaying banners and signs to remind everyone of the rules.”
