Police are highlighting the dangers of reservoirs after youngsters risked their lives by jumping from a water tower and swimming at an East Renfrewshire beauty spot.

During the good weather at the weekend, youths from across the area and further afield ventured into the water at Picketlaw Reservoir, in Eaglesham.

Officers who were sent to the scene noticed that some of the youngsters were under the influence of alcohol.

Inspector Michelle Grant told the Barrhead News: “Some of the young people were taken home and parents were contacted to come and collect others.

“They are jumping from the water tower, which is still functioning and extremely dangerous.

“If any one of them were to be taken under the water and into the pipes, then the consequences would be fatal.”
