A BARRHEAD Brownie was rewarded for her dedication as she won a prize in memory of an inspirational Guide leader.

Nine-year-old Charlotte McInnes was presented with Renee’s Guiding Star Award, which is named after Renee McDougall.

Renee, who died in 2017, worked with the 7th Barrhead Guides and was a great role model to young people.

As a tribute to her 50 years of service, the prize recognises outstanding commitment to guiding, as well as courage and initiative.

Pamela Davison, one of the leaders at the 7th Barrhead Brownies, said: “Charlotte is a hugely-dedicated Brownie and takes part in everything she is asked to do.

“She is a very kind and caring girl who always looks out for and helps others – qualities that Renee also had.

“Charlotte has also earned lots of badges and is on the way to being the first Brownie in 7th Barrhead to earn her Gold award – the highest award in each section.”

The youngster received the award during an afternoon meeting on Zoom involving more than 80 girls from Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor, as well as a magician who joined the fun to perform some magic tricks.

It was one of several digital events held over the past year to help girls across East Renfrewshire stay connected during the pandemic.

Louise Lightbody, county commissioner for East Renfrewshire, said: “We have more than 1,000 girls in Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers across the area.

“Our fantastic volunteers have organised many online activities to bring the fun and friendship of guiding straight to the girls’ living rooms.

“It’s great to be able to keep units meeting as much as possible in these challenging times."
