A FLOOD alert has been issued for the Barrhead area with torrential rain forecast for the coming days.

The downpour is expected to hit the area from this evening and overnight into Wednesday.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has warned the heavy rain could cause some flooding from surface water and small watercourses.

A statement reads: "Typical flooding impacts could include localised flooding of land and roads, isolated cases of flooding affecting individual properties, and localised disruption to travel.

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property."
