Efforts to electrify the rail line from Glasgow to Barrhead have been welcomed by the town’s MSP.

Tom Arthur spoke out after he questioned Michael Matheson, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, about the project during a debate at Holyrood.

As well as making trains more environmentally friendly, the electrification aims to help to increase capacity and improve journey times.

Mr Arthur, who represents Renfrewshire South, said: “This is welcome news for rail users as the Scottish Government continues in its ambition to not only improve rail services but to ensure a green and strong future.

“I have campaigned since my election in 2016 for improvements to the Barrhead line and confirmation of this investment will be welcomed by those who use the service.”
