Lewis Capaldi: Chart star gets green light for £1.6m farmhouse renovation in East Renfrewshire

The 24-year-old chart star bought the Victorian five-bedroom property near Eaglesham last September.

Three months later, he applied for planning consent to make improvements to the home, which is set in 10 acres of land and has its own private island, summer house, bridge and trout pond.

The stunning property also boasts a massive conservatory, manicured lawns, en-suite jacuzzi room, scented walkway and, in true celebrity style, giant electric gates to ensure privacy.

Last week, East Renfrewshire Council approved the project, which includes a glass-fronted, open-plan lounge and dining room, a gym, media room, home cinema and new bedrooms.

It is not known if or when Capaldi is planning to move into the property, which is around 45 minutes drive from his parents’ home in Bathgate, West Lothian.

Despite being 2019’s best-selling UK artist, Capaldi has snubbed much of the luxuries that often come with fame and fortune.

Until recently, the Someone You Loved singer, who spent the first four years of his life in Glasgow, continued to live with his parents.

He is said to be a distant relative of Barrhead-born nuclear physicist Joseph Capaldi.

Architects submitted proposals for the renovation programme to council planners in December, with permission granted on February 4.

Online documents for the application state: “The proposal generally complies with the terms of the Local Development Plan and there are no material considerations that indicate otherwise.

“The external finishes, albeit contemporary, are considered to complement the character and setting of the traditional building.”
