STAFF at an East Renfrewshire hotel have been putting their spare time to good use during lockdown...by taking part in a sponsored walk inspired by America’s iconic Route 66.

The caring team at The Busby Hotel are coining in cash for Wish Upon A Star Scotland, which makes dreams come true for children living with a life-threatening illness.

They are part of a 50-strong group from parent company Manorview Hotel Group who made a commitment to virtually cover the 4,000km length of Route 66, which winds from Chicago to California, in just 14 days by walking, running and cycling in their local area.

It is hoped that, along with other fundraising initiatives being staged by Manorview, a total of £90,000 can be raised.

Scott Macintyre, Manorview’s head of operational development, said: “We wanted to do more than raise money for When You Wish Upon a Star, so we asked them to give us a target that would represent a significant milestone.

“Raising £90,000 means we can send an entire plane of families with sick children to meet Santa in Lapland in December 2021.

“It’s a big goal but we have an amazing team and we’re going to do everything we can to make it happen.

“As well as raising funds for an amazing cause, we knew this activity would motivate the team at a really challenging time. We’re thinking of all of our friends in hospitality right now and trying to stay as motivated as we can as we navigate through lockdown.”

Judith King, Scotland regional fundraiser for Wish Upon A Star Scotland added: “Our Manorview wish-granters are simply amazing.

"A Lapland wish will give our families the chance to come together, have fun and make everlasting memories."
