A SECOND man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged armed robbery at a Barrhead grocers.

Liam Menzies, 24, of Clydebank, faces assault and robbery charges over an incident at Premier Stores, in the town’s Cross Arthurlie Street, on January 3.

He appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Co-accused James Bennett, 32, from Barrhead, appeared in the dock on January 22 to face the same charges.

Neither man made any plea and both were remanded in custody.

It is alleged that a 25-year-old shop assistant was threatened with a knife and a number of items were taken from the store.

A police spokesperson said: "A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
