A much-loved and respected former teacher from Barrhead has died at the age of 84.

Rena (Catherine) Owens was born on August 12, 1936 and passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 23.

She devoted her career to the education service, as a primary teacher starting out at St Thomas’ in Neilston where she undertook her teacher training placement.

Rena then worked at St Mark’s Primary in Barrhead before moving on latterly to St Bernard’s Primary in Nitshill where she worked until her retirement.

She lived her life for her family including her late husband Phil, her children John, Janice and Andrew and her sisters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her family described her as a truly remarkable lady, who is now at home with Jesus.

A memorial service will be held at St John’s Church, Barrhead on Monday, February 1 at 10am with the proceedings shown online.
