THE owners of a popular East Renfrewshire restaurant have been praised for dishing up Christmas meals to homeless people and vulnerable families.
Luciano Sonvico and Lello Branco, who run LL Italiano, in Newton Mearns, gave away the turkey dinners to the team from A Magical Christmas after becoming concerned about the number of people who wouldn’t be able to enjoy a festive meal.
The caring businessmen, who have owned the Italian restaurant for four years, were particularly keen to offer their support at a time when the coronavirus pandemic meant that, for many, Christmas cheer was in short supply.
Luciano told the Barrhead News: “We had seen a few businesses in the area doing a similar initiative to donate food.
“We donated the meals to two homeless shelters and Margaret McAuley, from A Magical Christmas, came along to pick up the meals.
“We made a typical turkey meal, with profiteroles for dessert.”
The meals were distributed to vulnerable families and the homeless at a shelter based in North Lanarkshire.
Margaret is full of praise for Luciano and Lello and has thanked them for their generosity.
She said: “We believe that every child and their family should have a Christmas that is magical and were delighted when Luciano and Lello told us they were going to donate 20 meals.
“When I went to collect the meals, it turned out they had filled 60 different containers with turkey and trimmings, including fresh vegetables, to complete the meal and then containers with dessert.
“It was just astounding. I was overwhelmed by their generosity and what they had made.”
