Police have charged a 20-year-old man in connection with an alleged assault and attempted robbery on a teenage girl just days before Christmas.

The incident took place at around 6.45pm on December 22 as the 14-year-old girl was walking along a lane from Robslee Drive to Burnfield Road, between Giffnock and Thornliebank.

She was reportedly grabbed from behind by a man who demanded her phone but she managed to break free and ran off.

Police said the girl was not injured but was left shaken by her ordeal.

East Renfrewshire Police said: “On the evening of December 22, a 14-year-old girl was the victim of an assault with intent to rob on a lane between Robslee Drive and Burnfield Road.

“Following enquiries, a 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged.

"He is expected to appear at court in due course.”
