A FROZEN pond in an East Renfrewshire park has been broken up by the council following safety fears.
Visitors had previously been warned not to walk or skate on the boating pond in Rouken Glen Park, Giffnock, which froze last week due to sub-zero temperatures.
On Thursday, diggers were sent to the park by East Renfrewshire Council to break up the ice.
The decision was made after crowds flocked to the park to play or show off their skating skills on the frozen pond.
A spokeswoman for East Renfrewshire Council said: "Despite warning visitors to the park not to stand on the frozen pond, we continued to receive reports of people walking onto the ice.
"To prevent this and the risk of accidents, staff have broken up ice on the pond."
