KIND-hearted staff at a Barrhead bank have donated more than 100 toys to young people in need this Christmas.

The team at the Bank of Scotland branch in the town’s Main Street handed the items to Renfrewshire Women’s Aid.

It is the first time the branch has organised a festive toy drive and staff were delighted to support such a worthwhile cause.

Jackie Campagna, customer advisor, told the Barrhead News: “We started the toy collection at the start of December, as we were keen to help families and children after what has been an unsettled year.

“We had a Google search for local charities that were collecting donations and came across Women’s Aid, so we gave them a wee phone and they explained they had 20 kids in their care who wouldn’t have anything for Christmas, so it just felt fitting to donate the toys to them.”

The items included gifts for babies, children and teenagers, such as jigsaws, books, remote control cars, Lego, make-up and dolls.

Due to Covid restrictions, only staff were able to donate items this time but Jackie hopes that, next year, they will also be able to accept donations from local residents and businesses.

She added: “It was fantastic to be able to give something back."
