A ROYAL Air Force veteran has penned his second children’s book to raise funds for one of Renfrewshire’s best-known charities.

Brian Taylor, 54, is donating all profits from sales of his new book, Scrambled with Care, to veterans’ charity Erskine.

The Tayport man, who served as an aircraft weapons technician in the RAF for 22 years, has raised over £80,000 for worthy causes after becoming heavily involved in charity fundraising during his time at the RAF Leuchars air base.

Brian was inspired to write his first children’s book Queenie after he began making up his own imaginative bedtime stories for his daughters Sara and Briony.

The book’s sequel is set during the Second World War and follows the story of two girls, named after Brian’s children, who learn about the flying career of an RAF pilot and the struggles of being a nurse during the war.

At the end of the book, Sara and Briony witness a heart-wrenching encounter when they visit an Erskine care home.

Brian told The Gazette: “Having scratched the surface with a little fundraising for Erskine in the past, it was always my intention to donate all proceeds from this book to the charity.

“It has taken a long time to get here but I am delighted to finally be able to achieve my wish. I am so proud to be a veteran and the outstanding work the carers at Erskine do for my fellow veterans is utterly amazing.”

Wing Commander Ian Cumming, Erskine’s chief executive, said he is “extremely grateful” to Brian for his support, especially at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has made it difficult for the charity to raise funds.

He added: “It’s incredibly impressive how much money Brian has raised over the years for charity.”
