TALENTED pupils at St Luke’s High are teaming up with the Barrhead News to bring our readers up to date with the latest events at their school.

As part of a regular feature, members of the school’s Press Club are using our pages to highlight the issues that matter to them.

Our thanks go to the hard-working St Luke’s High reporting team of Lucy Kearney, Sophie Lancaster, Grace Lochrie and Erin Millar for their contribution

There are a lot of exciting projects and initiatives taking place around the school.

Each month, we’re spotlighting a new department and what they’re doing to celebrate the talent we have.

Social subjects take centre stage this month as we explore all of the opportunities being made available.

Jamie Paton, of the modern studies department, has enthusiastically organised extra-curricular clubs within the school, providing an uplifting environment for pupils.

Tie-dye Club runs every Thursday, where S1 pupils can tie-dye anything from T-shirts to face masks. Pupils are also planning to donate the items they produce, or sell them to raise money for charity, which ties in with our school values of love, faith and understanding.

Sign Language Club, also run by Mr Paton, is underway too.

At lunchtime every Wednesday, S1 pupils have the opportunity to learn a new communication skill.

The goal is to achieve a Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language.

Meanwhile, during November, Craig Bell, of the history department, organised activities to raise awareness of Remembrance Day and the sacrifices made by soldiers during the First World War.

In line with this, S1 and S2 pupils engaged in the Poppyscotland Learning Competition, which inspires creativity within the classroom.

The documentary film They Shall Not Grow Old was also shown to pupils, providing an insight into the conditions faced by soldiers at war.

The social subjects faculty at St Luke’s is committed to raising attainment within the school, regardless of disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Supported study is available after the school day and students and parents alike can keep up to date with the latest announcements by following @SocSubSLHS for the social subjects faculty and @StLukesHigh, which is the school’s main Twitter account.
