A CHURCH was draped in 4,000 handmade poppies ahead of Remembrance Day.
The stunning display was hung over Giffnock Orchardhill Parish Church, in Giffnock, on Wednesday.
It was made two years ago to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
Parishioners cut out the poppies by hand and sewed them onto netting.
Willie Hendry, 66, who organised it, said: “The poppies were made in 2018 to mark 100 years since the end of World War One.
“It took a long time to put together.
“The idea came as a result of going to see the Tower of London poppies - we thought it might be a good idea to create something like a waterfall made out of poppies.
“We used some netting and we cut them out and coloured them in, and they were sewn on the netting.”
Volunteers had to wait until weather conditions were good enough before draping the netting from the top of the 15metre tall church, on Wednesday.
Property convenor Mr Hendry added: “People have been stopping and photographing it.
“People in cars have been stopping to take pictures.
“It seems to have captured the imagination.
“It was all volunteers who made it, it took months - it was a Herculean task, everybody put their heart into it.
“It was teamwork.”
