A MOTORIST was arrested after he was allegedly caught heading the wrong way down a busy road while more than three times over the drink-drive limit.
The 28-year-old suspect was in a black Hyundai that was stopped on the M77 motorway at around 4am on Friday after officers had been alerted by a concerned member of the public.
The car had been spotted travelling north on the southbound carriageway, near the Barrhead turn-off.
Police said they found the driver parked on the hard shoulder, with his car – which had been damaged – facing the wrong way.
It is claimed he later failed a breath test.
A police spokesman told the Barrhead News: “Police received a call in relation to a motor vehicle travelling north on the southbound M77 at Junction 2, against the run of traffic.
“On attendance, they observed an accident-damaged vehicle on the hard shoulder, with the driver still within.
“A 28-year-old male was found to have exceeded the level of alcohol permitted in his breath.”
