A MAN has been arrested and a woman remains in hospital following a "major drama" in Lanarkshire last night.  

Officers swooped on East Kilbride's Loch Awe at around 9.40pm after reports of a disturbance. 

A 31-year-old woman was taken to Hairmyres Hospital, in the town, with serious injuries, where she is described as being in a "serious but stable condition". 

A 56-year-old man was also taken to hospital but later released.

Cops have now launched a probe into the incident and have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with it. 

They have moved to reassure the public there is "no wider threat" to them. 

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We were called around 9.40pm on Monday, 28 September, to a report of a disturbance in the Loch Awe area of East Kilbride.

“A 31-year-old woman was taken to Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride, with serious injuries where she is described as being in a serious but stable condition.

“A 56-old man was also taken to hospital but later released.

“A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances of what happened but there is no risk to the wider public."
