RESIDENTS in East Renfrewshire are being urged to be on their guard against cold callers.
The warning has been issued by police after officers received reports of people pretending to be from energy companies who visited homes in the Newton Mearns area.
A police spokesman added: “We’ve received reports of cold callers at doors in Newton Mearns, purporting to be from energy companies or offering government-backed energy deals.
“Similar incidents have occurred elsewhere, with victims being defrauded of large sums.”
Anyone who has concerns about cold callers can call the police on 101.
