A MOTORIST was arrested by police in East Renfrewshire after a breath test showed he was more than six times over the legal alcohol limit.
The driver was stopped by officers on the M77, near to junction five, at Newton Mearns on Friday after reports from a concerned member of the public over his erratic driving.
It's understood the roadside breath test reading was just under 139 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol in 100 millilitres (ml) of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.
The suspect was detained in police cells over the weekend, pending an appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court on today.
A police spokesman said: "I can confirm that, around 9.45pm on Friday, police received a call from a concerned member of the public reporting that a red motor vehicle travelling south on the M77, near to junction five, was swerving all over the road.
"Police responded immediately and attending officers observed the vehicle and caused it to stop safely.
"The 31-year-old male driver, who was alone in the vehicle, subsequently failed the roadside breath test.
"The driver was arrested and conveyed to Helen Street Police Office, in Govan, where he underwent further examination and was found to be significantly over the prescribed limit."
