CONTACT tracing has begun at a second primary school in East Renfrewshire.

Test and Protect staff are getting in touch with close contacts at Crookfur Primary, in Newton Mearns.

Health bosses have confirmed there is currently no evidence of transmission within the school, and pupils and staff can continue to attend as normal, apart from those who are identified as contacts.

It is the second Test and Protect investigation within East Renfrewshire, after a positive coronavirus case was identified at the pre-school in Braidbar Primary, Giffnock, and the nursery was temporarily shut.

Test and Protect teams are also currently working to establish close contacts from four Glasgow schools, one East Dunbartonshire school and one Clydebank school after a number of positive cases were identified last night.

A NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spokesperson said: "Apart from those who are identified as close contacts, all other staff and pupils can continue to attend as normal.

"The exception to this applies to East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, West Dunbartonshire, East Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire where additional Covid-19 control measures are in place.

"In these Local Authority areas, any close contacts of someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 are being advised that they and all those in their household group, should self-isolate for 14 days."
