Rangers' Borna Barisic has won August's goal of the month award - to the disdain of gutted Kilmarnock supporters.

Killie fans were convinced their man Rory McKenzie's beautiful chip over Benjamin Siegrist in their side's 4-0 win over Dundee United last weekend would seal goal of the season, never mind goal of the month.

However with the fan vote on SPFL's social media pages, Barisic's brilliant free-kick against St Johnstone picked up the gong with 38 percent of the public vote.

The Rugby Park outfit even voiced their surprise with a subtle tweet in response, saying: "Well, that's enough internet for today". Punters couldn't believe the outcome and told of their shock.

One moaned: "Did it better than Messi and doesn't get goal of the month," another added: "Request investigation." One fan wrote: "How did that not get first," accompanied by laughing emojis. And a fourth said: "Should have won by a mile."

Even some Gers fans admitted McKenzie's strike was easier on the eye. One laughed: "Tbh I’m a gers fan but Mckenzie’s goal against Dundee United should’ve won". Another added: "Personally thought the killie dink over the keeper from outside the box was best of the month."
