Nicola Sturgeon has announced new lockdown restrictions for Barrhead.

A rise in cases has led to restrictions in Glasgow, West Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire.

They will be in place for a two week period but reviewed after one week.

The First Minister has announced that from midnight tonight you should not host people from other households or visit other households, except in emergencies.

Ms Sturgeon said: "If they rise further, people will fall ill.

"If we don't stem this tide, we could see virus run out of control again."

The First Minister chaired a meeting of the Scottish Government Resilience Committee this afternoon to discuss the rise in cases in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area.

Earlier she had told the Scottish Parliament: “the situation is causing us some concern.”

The increase in cases has risen sharply in the last week.

Ms Sturgeon said that there had been 154 new positive cases across Scotland in the last 24 hours and 66 were in the Greater Glasgow area. A week ago it was just 12.

In the last seven days there has been 260 new positive cases in the area and 174 of those were reported in the last three days alone.

The health board area covers Glasgow City, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, West and East Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde.
