A LANARKSHIRE town has been boosted by 30 affordable homes.

The houses have been built on East Academy Street, in Wishaw, as part of going work in the area.

Developed by the JR Group, the properties have transformed the site of the former Wishaw Market.

Gary McGregor, managing director of the JR Group, said: “Wishaw is a great place to live and bring up a family, with a real sense of community remaining. I am absolutely delighted to be involved in its continued growth and regeneration.

"The project at East Academy Street was a great example of how the area can be regenerated. I used to go to Wishaw Market as a kid, so it was sad to see its demise. Its redevelopment has brought with it much needed high-quality new build homes that people can be proud of.

“The team at The JR Group worked tirelessly to deliver the development and I am confident many people will enjoy living there for many years to come.”

As part of the company’s engagement with the community and its commitment to delivering local benefits alongside the projects, The JR Group has agreed to be a sponsor of the Wishaw Wycombe 2003’s amateur football team.

The company has provided funding for new kits and equipment which will help the Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers as they begin to train again following the lifting of lockdown restrictions.

In addition, The JR Group has also provided sponsorship for the Carbrain Boys Club.
Gary, who is the president of the Wishaw High former pupil football team, continued:

“Wishaw is incredibly close to my heart, and I believe strongly in not only regenerating the town but in strengthening the community as this is a part of what makes it so special.

“I am thrilled we were able to support the Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers and the Carbrain Boys Club, I hope it brings them the confidence and support they need to do great things as the Club starts to return.”
