A cyclist was seriously injured after a crash in Cumbernauld in the early hours of this morning.

The collision took place around just after midnight on Seafar Road, near to the junction with Dowanfield Road.

The 42-year-old was knocked from his grey  Cannondale mountain bike.

He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with a serious head injury.

The road was closed for around four hours while police investigated the crash. 

Officers are now appealing witnesses to come forward with information.

Sergeant Roy McCarney of the Road Policing Unit said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and haven’t already spoken to officers to come forward.

“We are also appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who has dashcam footage or any other information which may assist to get in touch.”
