STAFF at a dental practice have been left stunned after four of its prized trees were pinched.

The theft of the Red Robin trees took place outside Bridge of Weir Dental and Aesthetics, in Prieston Road, at around 12.30am on Thursday.

Footage from a CCTV system covering the area shows a masked man in dark clothing, believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s, using a shovel to dig up the trees.

Practice owner Dr Ayesha Ali told The Gazette: “Like many businesses, it’s been a really difficult time for us. We’ve invested a lot into renovating the building and the landscaping, which we believe has really enhanced the area.

“So for someone to take the trees away is quite disappointing.”

Dr Ali said the practice had received an outpouring of support after breaking the news to their customers on social media.

She added: “Bridge of Weir is a lovely area and many of the locals were horrified to hear the trees had been stolen.

“Many of them appreciate and comment on how nice the building and the landscaping look and what a difference it’s made to the area, so I think many of them are angry that this has happened.”

Staff at the practice are now warning other businesses and residents who own similar trees or plants to remain vigilant.

A police spokesperson said enquiries into the theft are ongoing and anyone with information should call 101.
