A MAN has been arrested for alleged theft by housebreaking after being found in a Renfrew house.

An elderly couple were at home in Douglas Road at around 10.20pm on Saturday when they heard a noise coming from another part of the property.

On further investigation, they found their back door had been opened and then discovered a 35-year-old man hiding behind a bed.

The incident was reported to police and, on arrival, they found the suspect had been detained by the elderly couple’s son.

It is alleged that, when officers searched the suspect, they found an iPod belonging to the couple.

A police spokesperson said the man was due to appear in court this week.
