AN investigation has been launched after an arson attack took place at a Barrhead industrial estate.

Police and fire crews were called to Shanks Industrial Estate, in Blackbyres Road, at around 8.15pm on Sunday.

When the emergency services arrived at the scene, they could see flames and smoke billowing from a portable building.

It has now been confirmed the fire was started deliberately, with police urging anyone who has information to get in touch with them.

Inspector Stevie Scott, who is based at Giffnock police office, told the Barrhead News: “We attended the incident and a crime report was raised for wilful fireraising.

“Enquiries are ongoing at this stage and anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote the incident number 3,509 of July 19.”

No-one was injured as a result of the blaze.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 8.17pm on Sunday to reports of a fire within a portable building at Shanks Industrial Estate, in Blackbyres Road, Barrhead.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where crews extinguished the flames.

“Firefighters left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
