TENNIS courts in Barrhead have reopened after being given a facelift.

The £7,000 upgrade at the council-run facilities in Cowan Park involved replacing the nets and net posts, repainting the surfaces and getting rid of weeds.

Councillor Alan Lafferty, East Renfrewshire’s environment convener, said: “I was really pleased to see the results of the improvement works at Cowan Park’s tennis courts.

“They are a fantastic asset for the people of Barrhead and beyond and we are dedicated to providing our residents and visitors with top-class facilities in our public spaces.

“Let’s hope for some nice summer weather over the coming months, helping to encourage us all to get out and about and enjoy our parks safely.”

The upgrade at the Cowan Park courts had been due to take place in April, to avoid disruption during the summer holidays, but council chiefs postponed the work as a result of the coronavirus lockdown.
