A BARRHEAD business guru whose popular quiz nights have taken Facebook by storm has now turned to online dating for his next venture.

Andy Dunlop’s ‘virtual pub’ – The Stayin’ Inn – has a regular following of thousands from around the world who are keen to show off their general knowledge.

Now Andy has launched a Saturday night online dating show, dubbed ‘Zoom to Groom,’ with equal worldwide success – and he is looking for lovelorn singletons to take part.

Viewers can watch the 90-second speed dates and interact with the laughs, the awkward moments and the blossoming love on Facebook, YouTube and Twitch.

Dad-of-three Andy, who is married to Jenny, told the Barrhead News: “Zoom to Groom started as a group chat with friends about how difficult dating was going to be during lockdown.

“We could never have anticipated how popular it would become.

“From the start it was clear people loved watching it, as well as taking part.”

The show caught the eye of BAFTA-winning producer and director Hannah Currie, from Glasgow, who came on board to launch series two of Zoom to Groom with a revamped look and some unexpected twists and turns.

Episodes one and two of the new series have each reached over 10,000 viewers cross-platform – and counting.

Hannah said: “My friends told me about Zoom to Groom, so I tuned in and honestly it was the most entertaining thing I’ve seen all year, never mind in lockdown.

“I reached out to Andy about developing the show so it could reach a bigger audience and the buzz just keeps growing and growing.”

Last month, the Barrhead News told how Andy, who manages the Business Improvement Districts (BIDS) in Barrhead and Clarkston, was amazed by the success of The Stayin’ Inn quiz nights, which regularly get 1,000 teams putting their knowledge to the test.

On one occasion, a phenomenal 2,500 teams took part.

Andy said: “It’s all free but we invite the teams to make a donation for charity. So far, we have raised £50,000, with £10,000 of that going to the Beatson cancer charity.”

One welcome spin-off is that, as the popularity of The Stayin’ Inn Facebook page grew, many people who were feeling down and lonely found it offered a way of boosting their spirits.

Zoom to Groom broadcasts from 10pm on Saturdays.
