Drivers can expect diversions and delays as resurfacing work is set to take place on the M8 eastbound.

Work will be carried out at Junction 31, nearby Greenock Road, from Monday, July 20.

It will see the M8 lanes restricted as a contraflow traffic management system is put in place on the westbound lanes.

M8 eastbound will be fully closed before the start of the resurfacing work and after it is completed while the westbound contraflow is implemented.

This will take place from 8pm on July 19 to 6am on Monday, July 20, and on 8pm on Friday, July 24 to 6am the following morning.

Local diversions will be in place during the installation and removal process.

Drivers are being advised to allow for extra time for their journeys while the work is carried out.

Alan Murray, principal roads design engineer for TranServ, said: "This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working. It is vital that we resurface this area in order to maintain road safety.

"Traffic volumes currently remain low, in line with government advice, and the programme can, therefore, be carried out safely and with minimal disruption."

The work will be carried out in line with physical distancing protocols to ensure the safety of all the workers.

In association with Transport Scotland, it was identified that this resurfacing project is an essential maintenance scheme, vital to maintaining the integrity and safety of the trunk road network.

Laura Gray, Scotland TranServ’s planned maintenance manager added: "An efficient and well-managed trunk road network is particularly important to supporting essential supply chains and the wider economy across South West Scotland at this time.

"Working in collaboration with Transport Scotland, we have identified a number of essential maintenance projects, which are being prioritised over the coming weeks."

“We fully recognise the importance of a safe and reliable trunk road network and where possible, Scotland TranServ is supporting Transport Scotland as they expect to invest £471million in maintenance in 2020/21."
