FIRE crews were called to a tyre fire in East Renfrewshire.

Emergency services rushed to tackle the blaze around 8pm on Saturday, June 20 near Patterton Farm in Newton Mearns.

Three appliances were sent to the scene of the "well-developed fire" where a "large quantity" of tyres were burning.

Black smoke could be seen billowing across the area.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Barrhead News: "We were alerted at 8.11pm on Saturday, June 20 to reports of a well developed fire in the open in Newton Mearns.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to Patterton Farm, where firefighters were met by a large quantity of tyres on fire.

“Crews extinguished the fire as of 1.20am on Sunday, June 21.

“Firefighters left the scene after working to make the area safe.

“There were no casualties.”
