A DRUNKEN thug who assaulted his partner after she told him to quieten down was jailed today for 12 months.
Kevin Tait, 34, attacked his on-off lover at their home in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire last November.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard Tait was in the living room drinking and sitting close to her.
Prosecutor Mark Allan said: “She asked Tait to be a bit quieter and a disturbance commenced.
“She was punched on her face and she responded by hitting him with a mirror which smashed.
“He responded by kicking her on the head and body and repeatedly struck her head and body with a bourbon bottle.”
She fled the scene to a nearby Aldi supermarket where she contacted the police.
Officers arrived to see the house in a state of disarray and arrested Tait who said he had acted in “self-defence.”
His victim was taken to Hairmyres Hospital meantime for treatment to a wound on her head which required three staples.
She also received a wound to her earlobe that was glued shut as well as cuts, bruising and swelling to her hands, neck and shoulders.
Tait, who has previous convictions for assault, pleaded guilty today to the assault to her severe injury.
Lawyer, Marco Guarino, defending, told the court that the former chef was self-medicating his mental health issues with alcohol at the time.
Sheriff Alan Mackenzie granted a two year non harassment order against Tait in which he cannot contact her.
