A CARE worker has been putting her impressive craft skills to good use by raising money for a domestic abuse charity.

Lesley Kenny, who is based at the Barrhead Health and Social Care Centre, has previously made crafts to support worthy causes dealing with stroke patients and mental health issues.

Now, inspired by the local community’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, she has turned her hand to creating keyrings and other items with the message ‘we are in this together.’

Lesley, 52, told the Barrhead News: “Every time the news has been on recently, there have been these awful stories about what has been or could be happening in care homes during the lockdown.

“I thought that, if I made some keyrings and took them into the office, the girls there could take one and donate a wee bit of money for them.

“The idea just grew arms and legs from there.

“I’ve had a great response.”

Lesley has been making various crafts for seven years, raising more than £6,000 for stroke and mental health charities over that time.

Her latest fundraising efforts will help to support the work being carried out by a local women’s aid charity.

Lesley added: “At a time like this, you are so much more appreciative of your own situation but, unfortunately, there are people out there who will be going through hell, as you don’t know what goes on behind closed doors.

“There are many different forms of abuse but I want people to know that, if anything can be done, we are here and thinking of them.”
