SANDWICH chain Subway is reopening stores in East Renfrewshire for takeaway orders, with special measures in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Customers visiting branches in Barrhead and Thornliebank, as well as Silverburn Shopping Centre, will be able to get their sandwich fix again as part of the firm's plans for a phased reopening of stores.

Staff will be wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and new signs and floor markers have been installed to ensure social distancing is maintained.

Shoppers will be able to enter the stores to make a purchase or they can order through delivery services Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo. Orders over £10 will get free delivery.

As a thanks to frontline workers, NHS staff will also receive 25 per cent off their orders.

A spokesman for the company said: "Everybody in our Subway family and the wider communities they serve has shown great resilience in adapting to these challenging times that we currently find ourselves in.

"We are extremely grateful for their ongoing support in anticipation of this next phase of our gradual reopening, which will enable us to continue to serve our communities and frontline workers, who have helped us all so much in recent weeks."
