A CHANGE in lockdown rules means East Renfrewshire residents can now exercise more than once a day.

Previously, people were being told they were only allowed to venture outside for exercise once a day.

The new guidance, which comes into effect today, was given by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

However, there are no other changes to lockdown restrictions in East Renfrewshire.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson last night announced changes to lockdown rules in England, where those who are unable to work from home are now being encouraged to return to work.

Mr Johnson also said that, in addition to being able to leave home as many times as they wish for exercise or to sunbathe in parks, people in England can drive to other destinations.

However, Ms Sturgeon has asked the UK Government not to deploy its new 'stay alert' message in Scotland.

She said the advice from her government remains to 'stay at home,' other than for buying food, getting medicine or exercising.

Ms Sturgeon added that the rate of transmission of Covid-19 is believed to be higher in Scotland than in other parts of the UK.
