TECHNOLOGY is being put to good use as efforts are made to provide “lifeline” services to Barrhead’s most vulnerable residents during the coronavirus outbreak.

Bosses at the Include Me 2 Club, which helps children, young people and adults with additional support needs and disabilities, have said the Covid-19 crisis is making it increasingly difficult for them to reach those who are most in need.

The charity has now set up the likes of video chats to make sure vulnerable people don’t miss out.

Paul McIlvenny, of Include Me 2 Club, told the Barrhead News: “We are linking in with Voluntary Action in Barrhead and we have a small group within our own membership who we are supporting through meal drops and food support.

“They are really, really feeling it, with being stuck in self-isolation. We are doing a lot of online support and over the phone support too.

“We have moved all of our services online and onto digital platforms, like Zoom and Facebook Live. We’ve also started a daily ‘bits and pieces’ newsletter and video chat with one of our volunteers, so members can see a friendly face. Hopefully, this gives our members reassurance and helps them still feel part of something, which is really important.”

Paul admits he is concerned about the welfare of those with mental health conditions, as the virus crisis will be adding to their stress.

“We are doing all we can to help, including any critical support,” he said.
