THE number of positive cases of coronavirus in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde continues to rise as the Scottish death toll rose to 60.

New figures just released by the Scottish Government show the health board's numbers rose from 449 to 547 overnight.

The health board is responsible for care in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.

In total 1,993 people have tested positive for the virus in Scotland, an increase of 430 from Monday.

There are currently 135 people in intensive care suffering from coronavirus or coronavirus symptoms - an increase of 27 since yesterday.

At the Scottish Government's daily media briefing, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: "I want to extend my condolences to everyone who has lost loved ones and again express my deep appreciation to everyone working in our health and care sector.

"Everyone across the country is very grateful to you for the work you are doing."

Chief Medical Officer Dr Catherine Calderwood said the proportion of positive tests is increasing day by day.
