PEOPLE across East Renfrewshire are being urged to join a mass round of applause for NHS and care staff tonight.
The Clap for Carers campaign, backed by the UNISON trade union, is a chance to thank all employees who are working around the clock to treat people affected by coronavirus.
Dave Prentis, UNISON general secretary, said: “I’m humbled by the bravery, hard work and dedication of staff on the frontline. They’re doing an amazing job caring for us and our loved ones in incredibly difficult and often harrowing circumstances.
“Let’s put our hands together to show our gratitude for health service employees in these challenging times. Along with applauding their heroism, the best way to lend them support is to stay at home.”
Clap for Carers will take place at 8pm, with people encouraged to clap from their gardens, front doors and balconies to show their support.
Residents in other European countries, including Spain, France and Italy, have taken part in similar rounds of applause to show gratitude to healthcare workers.
