PLANS have been lodged to turn a vacant retail unit in Johnstone into a hot food takeaway serving ice cream and burgers.
The proposals for the eatery have been submitted by a Mr Sloss for a unit in High Street.
A design and access statement says the establishment would serve a variety of food, which would also include sandwiches and paninis, making it different from other establishments nearby.
The statement from the applicant’s agents Plans Drawn Scotland says: “There are two similar types of premises nearby.
“However, it is the intention of my client to concentrate on a variety of food which is not readily available at the other establishments and thereby create an alternative choice for the public.
“I am of the opinion this competition will drive up standards and also be competitive, which can only be beneficial to the consumer.
“An extensive choice of quality ice cream products will be available along with a large variety of burgers. The usual sandwiches, paninis etc, will be available with a good selection of teas, coffee and juices.
“It is considered that the building is suitable for the proposed use and is in an acceptable location in the centre of the town.
“The existing vacant retail unit has had a variety of shops over the years but they do not seem to have been viable.
“I am of the opinion this is suitable change of use and will provide a sustainable business and thereby occupy one of several vacant retail units on the High Street for many years to come.”
