THERE is a one in four chance your train will be late if you’re leaving from Barrhead, according to a new website.

Every UK rail station has been assessed by the ‘Train Lateness Tool’ to find the prospects of travelling on time.

Punctuality figures from January 2019 to this January were examined at 2,566 stops, with the results showing there is a 29 per cent chance your train in Barrhead will be late, ranking it 1,777th least punctual.

Neilston performs better, with a 17 per cent chance of a train being late.
Software provider RotaCloud, which produced the online tool with the help of Freedom of Information legislation, concluded more than a third of all trains across the UK run late.

James Lintern, co-founder of RotaCloud, said: “We wanted to take a deeper look into the reliability of the country’s trains and we built our punctuality tool to highlight the sheer volume of delays, cancellations and general lateness in the rail network.”

RotaCloud based their figures on Network Rail statistics about any delay to trains.

ScotRail, which looks to delays of no more than five minutes, said RotaCloud’s statistics don’t match how it measures performance.

The rail operator, which is being stripped of its franchise early because of poor performance, said it reports on punctuality every four weeks, using the industry standard of ‘public performance measure.’

A spokesman for ScotRail said the most recent average for punctuality was 88.5 per cent – the highest in 19 months.

He added: “Everyone across Scotland’s railway is working flat out for our customers and the third consecutive period of improvement for trains running on time is another step forward as we deliver the service they expect and deserve.”
