PRESSURE is mounting on disgraced MSP Derek Mackay to provide answers to his constituents after he remained in hiding for a second week.

Mr Mackay has not been seen in public and has cancelled surgeries in his Renfrewshire North and West constituency since it emerged he had flooded a schoolboy with unwanted messages.

Despite being suspended from the SNP pending an investigation into his behaviour, Mr Mackay continues to receive his MSP salary.

The Scottish Government does not have the power to strip him of the position.

West of Scotland MSP Maurice Golden said: “Concerns continue to mount over Derek Mackay’s inappropriate behaviour.

“There are clearly repercussions on his ability to continue as an MSP.

“The ability to hold surgeries and listen to constituents is a basic requirement of the job.

“His refusal to stand down as an MSP whilst cancelling surgeries raises serious questions.”

The pressure comes as it emerged Police Scotland will not charge Mr Mackay over his conduct.

Renfrewshire Labour group leader Eddie Devine, who confirmed his party will call for him to stand down at next week’s council meeting, has called the disgraced MSP “Mr Invisible”.

Mr Mackay’s constituency office in Renfrew’s Hairst Street remains open and staff are on hand to help residents in the MSP’s absence.
