Work to improve safety and accessibility at a busy East Renfrewshire road is underway.
East Renfrewshire Council is resurfacing Ayr Road, in Newton Mearns, as well as making it easier for people with mobility issues to use bus stops there.
An additional pedestrian crossing will also be installed to boost safety.
The improvements are being made between Malletsheugh Roundabout and Mearns Cross.
Preparatory works took place last weekend, ahead of the main project getting underway on Friday.
The upgrades are expected to be completed before the end of this month, with temporary traffic lights in place until then.
Councillor Alan Lafferty, East Renfrewshire’s environment convener, said: “Improving the transport network is key to encouraging economic growth and we are acutely aware of the importance which many people place on having well-maintained roads.
“This set of improvements will benefit not only road users but also pedestrians and anyone using public buses, so I am delighted that these works have been confirmed.”
