PARTS of Dunterlie and Auchenback are among those to be named the most deprived in Barrhead.

Dunterlie is among the most poverty stricken areas in the whole of Scotland, and is the only part of the town to be one of the country's most deprived five per cent.

The figures are contained within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) - a measure considering seven criteria, including income and health.

Other parts of Dunterlie are within the 10 per cent most deprived, while areas of Auchenback rank inside the bottom 20 per cent.

Authurlie and Gateside is by far Barrhead's least deprived scheme, ranking 6,782 out of 6,976 - the higher the number, the less deprived an area is.

In East Renfrewshire as a whole, Netherlee is among the county's top-10 least deprived areas, whereas Giffnock has been knocked off top spot - which it held in 2016 - by Stockbridge, in Edinburgh.
