IN response to the rise in drug deaths, Renfrewshire Council formed an Alcohol and Drug Partnership to try to address issues in communities.
It is set to publish its findings in the next few months and chair Jacqueline Cameron has said speaking to people with lived experience has been a key part of the organisation’s work.
Councillor Cameron added: “We recognise the impact drug use has on the lives of families, as the loss of one person is devastating for everyone involved.

“Our Alcohol and Drugs Commission, one of the first of its kind in Scotland, has been working to assess the impact of drug and alcohol use in Renfrewshire and has been identifying ways in which we can improve the lives of those affected.
“Hearing the voice of lived experience is at the heart of the commission’s work and we recognise the importance of practitioners with lived experience working with young people.”
Cllr Cameron said the commission’s recommendations will cover treatment services, early intervention and prevention provision, as well as suggesting new ways of working together to assist recovery.
She added: “We’re committed to doing things differently to improve the life chances of local people.”
