POLICE are investigating the theft of batteries from roads works traffic lights in Barrhead this week - the fourth incident in recent months.

Four of the industrial batteries were taken from inside the units in Aurs Road sometime between 6pm on Tuesday, January 14, and 7am on Wednesday, January 15.

Police are unsure whether the industrial batteries are being taken for scrap or retail, but there have been three previous thefts in Barrhead and Neilston road works.

A spokesman for police in Barrhead appealed for witnesses, particular to any suspicious activity overnight on Tuesday.

He said: "This can cause a lot of traffic disruption and it's a recurring issue."

The four batteries were valued at about £350 total.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers where they can remain anonymous.
