A BARRHEAD man has appeared in court accused of causing his wife fear or alarm...by honking the horn on his car.

Thomas Craig, of Tower Avenue, is alleged to have hounded his wife between December 11 and 12 last year.

Prosecutors claim that, on December 11, Craig parked his car in Levern Crescent, Barrhead, and repeatedly sounded his horn.

He is also said to have contacted his wife’s mother and asked her to contact his wife on his behalf.

And he is said to have loitered within Levern Crescent the following day.

The case against 42-year-old Craig called for the first time at Paisley Sheriff Court last week.

After Craig pleaded not guilty to the single charge against him, which was brought under the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010, Sheriff Colin Pettigrew decided he could be released on bail.

As part of the bail conditions imposed by the court, he is banned from approaching or contacting his wife or entering Levern Crescent.

Sheriff Pettigrew told Craig that would mean arrangements for collecting and dropping off their children would have to be done through a third party and without him entering Levern Crescent.

A trial date has been set for March, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for next month.
